Our most sincere thanks to everyone who supported our Hurricane Laura relief efforts. From inception to finish, we collected, loaded, and shipped the contents of this 26 foot cargo truck in 10 days! Donations: big and small; cash or items, were received from so many who gave from their hearts to assist Lake Charles! Here at St. John of the Cross, the support of parishioners, including our Knights was terrific. Our Ladies Guild’s generosity helped the cause tremendously. We also wish to thank the parishioners and Knights of Columbus of St. Genevieve Parish for their incredible support to this endeavor. Special thanks also goes to Mike Bruno’s Northshore Harley Davidson for their support. Folgers coffee was extremely generous with donations of 2 pallets of their delicious coffee! Sam’s club, and ‘point person’ Gabe Ducre helped, too.
With Blessings from Father Tuan on the evening before departure, the trip to Lake Charles and back was without incident, and a fulfilling experience for our team of Knights. We accomplished our goal of bringing some comfort to the people of Lake Charles in timely fashion. Comfort sent to Lake Charles with the love and charity by the good people of our community. The St. John of the Cross Knights of Columbus Council 12989 will continue to monitor the situation there. It is possible that we will formulate another plan to help that area again. Meanwhile, we will pray that God’s comfort will Bless those in need. In closing: Considering this was our Council’s first such mission, we are grateful that it went so well. Our mission to ‘help others’ was made possible by the generous collaboration of so many. Let’s hope that we are spared further hurricane damage to the people of all areas of the Gulf South. Should it take place, we are confident that this community will step up again.
